Ernest and Célestine: 40 Years of Friendship. The Iconic Characters Celebrate the Anniversary in Belgium and France
2021 is a really special year for Ernest and Célestine, the favorite characters of millions of children all over the world. 40 years ago, in 1981, the big kind-hearted bear and the charming little mouse appeared in the books illustrated by Gabrielle Vincent. Since then, the charismatic heroes have raised already several generations of ardent admirers. The great passion can be easily proven by more than one million of albums sold worldwide.
The popularity secret lays both in the author’s outstanding talent and the simple humanistic values delivered by the stories: kindness, openness, tolerance, parental love and striving to learn new things.
In 2012 Ernest and Célestine debuted in the namesake full-length cartoon, which later on was awarded by the “César” and nominated for the “Oscar” and “Annie”. Five years later, French animators repeated the success of the picture, when they transferred the adventures of inseparable friends to the new animated show, “Ernest and Célestine, The Collection”. The project received the “Pulcinella” Award as the best TV series for preschoolers.
To honor the anniversary of the legendary characters, various celebration activities will be arranged in Belgium and France throughout the year. These will include exhibitions, contests, music shows and themed walks. Also, in December, the 2nd season of the show is expected to be released.
