CLS Media at Licensing World Russia 2017

CLS Media took part in Licensing World Russia 2017, the international specialized exhibition that took place in the international exhibition center “Crocus Expo” (February 28 – March 2).

At its colorful stand CLS Media presented new titles from its portfolio as well as new lines of products of its licensee partners.

On March 1st at the session of the business program “Licensing in fields of consumer market: fresh look at your product” Marina Semenikhina, Head of Lisencing Department of CLS Media, presented a speech entitled “New trend in licensing: Korean wave in Russia”. The session became one of the most impressive and memorable during the market and attracted a capacity crowd of the participants of the licensing market and media representatives.

“Along with the popularity growth of native Russian brands, the national market was struck by Korean wave («Hallyu») – there is an intense interest in Korean culture (music, cinema, animation) and in Korean products, in particular, in cosmetics, and also in Korean food”, - Marina Semenikhina told in her speech.

The trend has become worldwide. Korean actors make careers in Hollywood, music bands have gained huge popularity (singer PSY has managed to “break” the views’ counter of YouTube), Korean TV series are being successfully broadcasted in many countries. 

But the most popular Korean product in Russia is animation. Generally, Koreans have become absolute leaders in 3D computer effects and graphics. They do it so effectively, professionally and promptly that Korean studios handle the projects of Disney, DreamWorks, Pixar and even Russian “Soyuzmultfilm”. Compared to the niche Japanese animation and the specific Chinese animation, Koreans has firmly occupied the preschool and elementary schoolers’ segment.

In CLS Media portfolio there are a few prominent Korean licenses.  The 3rd season of TV animation series “Vroomiz” will be premiered on TV Channel “Carousel” in March. In 2016 the animation series got into TOP-10 of Yandex Market. TV animation “Duda&Dada” is also well-known to the Russian audience. At the moment the company is preparing the licensing program based on the brand. In Spring 2017 a new Korean animation show “Power Battle Watchcar” will be appear on TV Channel STS. This show was created in cooperation with Hyundai Motor.
